The research about fingering in music and sound visualizer

In music, there are many types of fingerings according to musical instruments. For example, fingering of keyboard instruments have a wide range of activity, but it can be played through x-axis. On the other hand, violin and theremin can be played through x-y axis, and x-y-z axis each. If you play the instruments for a while, your movement can be made a specific curve like a lissajous curve. Also some organic forms and sound visualizer can be developed with it. (2013-2-18)

Gesture Controls Sound. Sound Controls Media.
How Human Motion and Sound can Control Complexity in real time graphics.

Human body has many organs and systems which can be controlled by an electric signal of brain. Also whenever people read music and a book, the first thing they recognize is sound (not visual information). But if they don’t know about their specific system and structure, they can’t understand the meanings. Therefore I’m going to research about the relationship between human motion and sound, and make the output. (2013-3-23)

Between the Visible and the Invisible.
How Human Motion and Electric Signals can Control Complexity in Realtime Graphics.

Human body has many organs and systems which can be controlled by an electric signal of the nervous system. This is very similar to the structure of computer which is controlled by many electric signals. Also we can see their motions but can't see their signals. We can just suppose their existences.
Therefore this research is about the relationship between the visible and the invisible, besides similarities between human and computer. (2013-9-26)

Between the Visible and the Invisible.
How Human Motions and Electric Signals can Control Complexity in Real Time Graphics

Human body has many organs and systems which can be controlled by electric signals such like a brain wave or a neuron signal. This is very similar to the structure of computer which is controlled by many electric signals. We can see their motions but can’t see their signals. We can just suppose their existences.

If some invisible components around us, for example electromagnetic waves from electronics can be seen visually and they are controlled by other motions in real time, we can feel something between the real space and the surreal space.

Moreover, people usually desire something new. It won’t be interesting to share the experience only between human in the near future, and this work will give many inspirations for connecting human and non-human.

For this reason, the whole process suggests a new way how to show the something between the visible and the invisible. I developed my works based on various styles of motion, connection, paradox, and dimension. Especially, a recontextualisation and an anaglyph effect that contain these key concepts were helpful to develop many experiments.

In other words, this work is about how to show the relationship between the visible and the invisible, furthermore similarities between human and computer through some experiments about how human motions and electric signals can control complexity in real time graphics. (2013-12-22)

0203 - intro

This blog is for my thesis project based on motion graphics and interaction under my supervisor, Prof. David Hall.
I will research > experiment > develop > draw a conclusion.

-
There are some keywords, which I have to select and develop afterwards.

/1

Additive and Subtractive : Moiré Pattern
A moiré pattern, created by two(or more) grids, can change its form and color depending on their movements. This means we can make various patterns which have different penetration ratios of light.

/2
Depth Perception and Distortion : Pseudoscope
.

/3

Shape and Motion : Hypercube / Tesseract
Tesseract can be unfolded into 8 cubes into 3D space, just as the cube can be unfolded into 6 squares into 2D space. This structure can show both sides of cubes, and connect dimensions in various ways.

/4

Sound and Form : Lissajous FigureHarmonographSpirograph
Sound and Form : PendulumFoucault Pendulum
Lissajous Figure is a flat image but it has 3 axes. By varying the frequency and phase of the pendulums relative to one another, different patterns are created. I think this is a visual identity of each sound.

/5

Persistence of Vision : Persistence of VisionThaumatropeZoetrope
An analog projector can work with one light and a vertical motion. On the same principle, it is possible to install many lights and make a combined image(or animation).

/6
Etc : digital and analog / additive and subtractive / plane and solid / horizontal and vertical / visible and invisible
